This store = amazing.
I had been wanting to venture through the doors of this establishment for a long time, but never had. I would gaze at it almost every time we drove home from my parents' and wondered what sort of gourmet foods were inside. That is until 2 weeks ago. I don't think Scott and I were quite prepared for how amazing this small store would be. Now I know.
My life has been changed forever.
Who knew all the incredible flavours and aromas that come with balsamic vinegar and olive oil?! We went a little taste-tester crazy and dipped those little cubes of baguette into numerous puddles of oil and vinegar. Our tastebuds were dancing and our mouths were puckering. It sure was delicious! And there were over 20 different flavours of each! Plus, you could combine them to create new flavours. Oy vey! Not only that, but the staff were friendly as well. The sales clerk encouraged us to sample as much as we wanted and we definitely took her up on it.
Once we had sampled as much as we deemed appropriate, we finally decided on our purchases. Cranberry Pear White Balsamic Vinegar, Maple Balsamic Vinegar, Harissa Olive Oil and Organic Butter Olive Oil found it's way into our basket. $70 poorer, but very excited, we happily waltzed (ok, we just walked, but waltzed is so much more interesting) back to our car. I was thrilled to have found a gourmet foods store where I could spend my money on things that tasted amazing and helped me to expand my cooking and baking repertoire. I will definitely be visiting much more often. 5 stars in my books!
I hadn't fully realized until this experience how fooled I had been in the past. The olive oil I was using tasted cheap and flavourless, previous balsamic vinegars had little substance or kick, and I sort of assumed this was just the way it tasted. But I was very wrong. This is the real deal. The flavours and aromas are quite vibrant and enhance the foods you pair it with. I've used the Cranberry Pear as a vinagrette mixed with extra virgin olive oil (Kirkland brand from Costco is one of the highest rated for both taste and price), and I also plan on using it in sparking water or wine. I've also layed out the oils and vinegars as an appetizer were we dipped homemade french bread.
They really are amazing and can revolutionize your kitchen. I'm so excited for all the things I can create with them. Thank you, Dana! I would love to meet you someday and learn more about how you make products of palatable beauty.
